Looking for ways to help Intervale farmers? Here are some great ways to get involved. This list will be updated as we learn about more events.
- The Burlington Farmers’ Market hosted silent auctions during the month of September. Funds raised were shared between the Intervale Center Farmers’ Recovery Fund and the Vermont Irene Flood Relief Fund.
- Burlington Ensemble, in partnership with Champlain College, hosted a benefit concert for the Intervale Center Farmers’ Recovery Fund on Saturday, September 10, raising over $5,000 for the fund. Thank you to co-directors Michael Dabroski and Sofia Hirsch; to Champlain College for providing the venue; to the extraordinary musicians who traveled at short notice to perform on Intervale farmers’ behalf; to local artists Bonnie Acker and Katharine Montstream for donating original artwork to the live auction; and to local businesses City Market/Onion River Co-op for marketing and promotion support and American Flatbread Burlington Hearth for feeding hungry musicians after the performance.
- Farmer Dinners: Community member Andrea Todd (as featured on the Food and Wine blog!) has created a series of three Farmer Dinner fundraisers to support the farmers who were impacted by the floods of caused by Irene.
- Dinner 1 takes place on Friday, September 16 from 5-7 pm at Seventh Generation, 60 Lake Street, Burlington. It’ll be a buffet-style dinner hosted in the Seventh Generation kitchen and dining room; suggested minimum donation is $20/person. More details here. - Dinner 2 will take place on Sunday, September 25 at the Champlain Club in Burlington, and will feature a multi-course menu prepared by Jen Smith and Andrea Todd, locally made beer and wine, and live music! Tickets are $40/person and can be reserved by emailing andreatodd77@yahoo.com, or jenniferrosesmith@gmail.com. More details here. - Dinner 3 will take place on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the North End Studio, 294 North Winooski Avenue in Burlington. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund. The main dish will be country fried chicken donated by Rockville Market Farm; attendees are encouraged to use their imaginations and bring a side dish of potatoes or rice or corn, salad, bread, or dessert. The evening is sponsored by the Old North End Arts & Business Network, North End Studio, and Skinny Pancake with organization by Jen Berger, Megan Humphrey, and Andrea Todd. We are asking for a $10 minimum donation to attend; proceeds from the cash bar will be donated by the Skinny Pancake. Music will be provided by Jeff Fellinger and friends among others. ”This dinner is the epitome of the Old North End with everyone pulling together to help out the flooded farmers who have really battled the elements this season,” says organizer Megan Humphrey. - The Boycott: A Climate Comedy at Off Center for the Dramatic Arts in Burlington, VT, September 22 through 24. Three special performances will benefit the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online or by calling (802) 540-0773. Update: this performance raised $720 for the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund.

PS: The trailer was painted by none other than Intervale farmer “Airbrush Ron” Hernandez. Update: this event raised $650 for the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund.
- Calling all men and boys who need a haircut! On Sunday, September 25, Big League Haircutters will donate 100% of profits to the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund. Extended Sunday hours are 10 am – 5 pm. Please call for an appointment at 802-863-5511; walk-ins are also welcome. Big League Haircutters is a sports-themed men’s salon located in the Blue Mall, Dorset Street, South Burlington. Haircuts are $19 for men and $14 for boys 12 and under. Talented and cheerful stylists are waiting to cut your hair!
- Acupuncture and massage to benefit Intervale farmers: on Monday, September 26th, from 12pm-7pm, local practitioners will be providing acupuncture and massage by donation (minimum $20) at Vermont Community Acupuncture, 2 Church Street, 2nd Floor, Burlington. Participants can call ahead to reserve an appointment, but walk-ins will be welcome, too. All sales will go directly to the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund. - Benefit concert with Lila Mae and Jeff Hahn and the Beerworth Sisters at Studio Three on Friday, September 30. Tickets are $20 at the door. Seating is very limited; reserve ahead by calling Studio Three at (802) 658-6337. Doors at 7 p.m.; concert begins at 7:30. This event is BYOB – feel free to bring your own beer or food.
- The Clothes Exchange is “popping-up” to help Intervale farms! The Pop-Up shop features your favorite designers at deeply discounted prices – and proceeds benefit the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund! - Burlington Ensemble will perform BACHTOBERFEST on Saturday, October 29 at 6:00pm at All Souls Interfaith Gathering to raise money for the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund. BACHTOBERFEST will feature Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 in C major and The Goldberg Variations performed by Michael Dabroski (violin), Ynez Lynch (viola) and Benjamin Elton Capps (cello). All concert proceeds will benefit the Recovery Fund. $10 suggested minimum donation. Concert attendees are invited to picnic on the lawn overlooking Lake Champlain beginning at 4:30pm, followed by an indoor concert at 6pm. Fun for all ages, seasonal snacks, and a children’s costume parade.

- “Stick a Fork In It,” a chefs-for-farms benefit bacchanalia on Saturday, October 30 from 3 pm-dark. Bring your own plate, good will, and get ready to eat delicious food cooked over an open fire by local chefs Aaron Josinsky, Steve Atkins, Frank Pace, Tom Bivins, Robin Schempp, Abbey Duke, Laura Kanya & Nathaniel Wade. $100/person, advance tickets required. - Farmhouse Tap and Grill chef Phillip Clayton and bar manager Chad Rich are hosting a four-course dinner with beer pairings to benefit the Intervale Center Farmers Recovery Fund on Thursday, November 3. $95/person (includes beer pairings, tax, and gratuity).
