On June 24 and 25, Intervale Consulting welcomed special guests from two burgeoning Canadian nonprofits, Farmstart and Just Food. Looking over the mission, goals and accomplishments of these two young nonprofits is inspiring.

As Mandy Davis, Program Associate, explains, “Farmstart first came to visit us a couple years ago and have modeled their farm incubator after our very own Farms Program. It was great to connect with them, catch up, learn about how they’re succeeding and hopefully help them tackle the next phase of development.”

About Intervale Consulting

The Intervale Center has been a leader in the development of community food systems for more than 20 years. Our impact on these food systems has been significant, from our initial work at land restoration to our support for organic farming. We established Vermont’s first CSA; Vermont’s first large-scale composting center; and Vermont’s first bareroot tree nursery. We are also currently helping farmers develop stronger businesses and sell through collaborative marketing and distribution systems.

The Intervale Center has developed a national reputation, and is an oft-cited model for agricultural development. In the past year alone we have hosted groups from British Columbia, Maryland, California, North Carolina, New York, India and Scotland seeking inspiration and information about our work. Recently we’ve worked with a select number of these organizations to replicate Intervale-style programs.
